Saturday night aimed to be a historic night at the O2 as it was the venue's first attempt to host the sweet science and Amir Khan’s first real professional opponent. Neither disappointed as there were several good performances in the new venue and Khan came back from his first professional knock-down to stop Willie Limond before the bell of the 8th.
Early in the evening, Kevin Mitchell the “Dagenham Destroyer” lived up to his name and floor Russian Alexander Hrluev with a vicious uppercut in the secondary round. Hrulev was still reeling from a first round knockdown that was reminiscent of Hatton’s KO blow to Jose Luis Castillo last week. Clearly outclassing his opponent, Mitchell now 24-0 with 17 KO’s will be one to watch in the Super-Featherweight division.
Local favourite Nicky Cook went into the ring against Californian Steven Luevano for the vacant WBO featherweight title. This was the best fight of the evening as both fighters showed a combination of technique and heart rarely seen in any ring. Luevano, a southpaw with a strong jab, took the fight to Cook from the opening bell and knocked him down five times before Cook was unable to rise again in the 11th round. The last four of the five knockdowns were from body shots so heavy the entire crowd of the O2 could be heard gasping in sympathy.
The evening ended with Matt Skelton retaining his commonwealth heavyweight championship against Michael Sprott in a fight so terrible I’ll stop here.

eyy elo was apnin yr a kwl boxer not so bad but still not mi type lolz im jkn man yr wicked im a big fan of yrs and i really luv yr boxing yr a f..... sick man i heard u took sum gora down in 72 sec not so bad lolz . jkn u knw wot yh my hobby iz 2 jke around wiv people so i can make dem luagh k i fink i wrote a bit 2 much lets come 2 da straight point im a big fan of yrs and bi knw luv mwuh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
