England in cricket match win shocker

After 89 days, 5 test matches, 1 20/20 and 3 one dayers, England finally register a win against the Aussies. It was convincing too but it showed up glaring inconsistenties in form: Plunkett bowled as well as I ever have, Joyce played brilliantly, Mahmood bowled really well, Darlrymple was agressive with the bat, same with Bell.

Why can't this happen on a consistent basis? If these players did so, then the likes of Collingwood, Strauss and Harmison could be under pressure to play for England again.
